Yes it's time to get an air con soon and I believe everyone are concern with electrical bills when it comes to getting air con (as many ticks as possible). Although savings on electrical bills are important, do also try to make sure that you are getting the right piping etc to minimise the problems that may come after using it for the...
Just done our papers and collected our keys for our BTO flat this week. Here's our findings: 1. CPF will be wiped out 2 weeks later after key collection 2. Loan period starts on your key collection date 3. But your first CPF deduction will only commence 2 months later (means more interest to pay since principle amount remains undeducted for 2 months)....
If you are still thinking that banks are giving very low interest (less than 0.05 to 0.1% pa). it's really time to relook into a new saving account to make the best out of your savings. There are already a few "savings account" out there that gives much higher interest as long as you hit some of their criteria such as depositing your salary into...
Chance upon this FJELLSE bed frame that is below $100 from Ikea Singapore. The price is really attractive (comes with Slant Base somemore) and it looks quite nice and probably will appeal to minimalists or landlords who are getting double bed frame for their tenants! However, I had heard from a local mattress manufacturer that Slatted Base may not be ideal for pocketed...
Guess what, after receiving my repaired LG G4 yesterday, one of the very first thing to do was to start setting up the whatsapp back up (since one can't be sure if a boot loop will start again since the handphone still get really hot when I start downloading and installing all the rest of the lost apps into the phone from Google...
Just as I was about to touch on this (since our BTO flat is coming to completion really soon and we are getting the HDB loan), Bank of China (BOC) had dropped a bomb as one of the best options to justify the CPF wipeout has became harder to achieve. But before we continue, let's refresh our memory on the current CPF interest...
The most regretful decision of the day was that I should have sync whatsapp to google drive. The LG G4, which had worked fine ever since it broke down once just after 3 months of usage, had gone to a boot loop mode (keep on restarting) 11 months later after having a new motherboard replaced. I am not sure what was the cause...
Getting the right mattress may take some effort. But here's a gentle warning which might help you save some money when choosing the bed frame too. Remember this, King/Queen/Double are all not SI units! Unlike cm that stays the same length wherever you go, "these sizes" may vary. The Queen size mattress in Singapore & Malaysia is different from the Queen size mattress...
Here's the battle scars of a 22 yr old mattress which had served well for 19 years before it start to sink in noticeably. Lessons to be learnt: 1. Do not neglect the underside of the mattress specially if you are still using flip-able ones. 2. Planks supporting the mattress can still scratch your mattress and it might be good to put an...
Since we are preparing to get our new house, I thought of sharing our experience in the search for an important item which is the mattress! But before going to that, I will like to give my review on my very first purchase of a super single mattress over the internet. Come to think of it, it was actually quite risky since I...

Understanding The "West Sun" before Purchasing a House with Example of the upcoming Bidadari Estate BTO project
For those living in countries near the equator such as Singapore, heat is actually one of our greatest enemies and we should avoid it as much as we can *if possible*.
Therefore it is very important to find out more about the sun's movement and how it will affect one's house since it is going to be an expensive item and you will probably be staying in the house for a good number of years!
Do spend some time reading this and also remember to share this in case someone close to you is planning to get a new home!
Here's an example below of an upcoming Bidadari estate BTO that is probably going to attract a huge no of bidders (since it is situated near a MRT station).
But do note that what you are going to learn from this post can be applied to any house, BTO, SOB, EC that you are planning to get.

First of all, one needs to understand the sun's movement (which is not 2D) and it can travel past Singapore via different paths depending on which part of the year. You can find a diagram and a video of the sun's movement (from April 2016 to March 2017) below which will help you understand better.
Basically remember that although the sun sets to the West (left) but it can also set to the NW (top left) or SW (bottom left) depending on which month of the year.
The general rule of thumb is that the sun sets to the NW from March to September and SW from September to March.

The general rule of thumb is that the sun sets to the NW from March to September and SW from September to March.
After understanding this, we ought to know that architects are well aware of the west sun and they would not be designing any houses that are facing the west directly nowadays.
Therefore although the floor plan of the upcoming Bidadari estate BTO (indicated by the blue star) this November has not been released, here's an example of possible NW or SW units that may surface in this project (since we believe it will be really rare to find units that are facing west directly for new BTO projects).
But do take note that this video example would not have been possible without the help from this website http://suncalc.net/
Hope this info will be useful and remember that the example above for the possible NW and SW facing units is based on the assumption that the west direction has no obstruction. There are always units facing the west, NW or SW that are spared from the sun or having minimal exposure from various factors which we will explore in the future.
Thanks for reading and do remember to share this!
Feel free to write to us at matthiaspicks@gmail.com if you have any tips or advises for potential buyers or owners of NW/SW-facing flat units.

Since most of us will be tapping on Govt's BTO projects to get their very first subsidized flat, I thought this might be something useful for those with less financial knowledge. You may have tried using this calculator from HDB to find out your estimated monthly payments, but this calculator doesn't show how much interest you will be paying. But I had found...
As all of us know that looking at greens are good for our eye sight, but how often you look at them? You might have the best designed furniture and home decorations, but you just felt something was missing. Try having some houseplant in your home to fill up the lack of touch in real life, it can be the cheapest houseplant you can get...
LOL! It was nice seeing this notice, but really don't forget to hydrate yourself while searching for the Poke Monsters! Remind your kids to drink more water too! Pokemon Go!!! Credit to: sgag.sg ...
You can actually save a bit of money by replacing your own watch battery. It costs almost 10 times to get a watch shop to do it for you. But do note that it is not always cheaper to buy the battery online (which I did). You may get good deals from shops such as Japan Home in Singapore. Here's how we did...
